The best way to explore the park is by drive around tours, which set out in the early hours of dawn. Among the species of animals that live here the most popular are Chinkara (the Indian gazelle), Chital (spotted deer), Nilgai (Blue Bull), Sambhar(elk like deer),Chausingha (the four-horned antelope) and the Blackbuck. The park is also a haven for birds like Migratory Geese, Pochard, Pintail, Cormorants, Painted Storks, White Ibis, Pond Herons and White-breasted Kingfishers.
Apart from the fauna another wonder stands deep in the depths of the forest. No, it is not some unique gift of nature but a castle, right in the middle of nowhere. Legend has it that the local ruler was told that the English royal family might visit his principality for one night. The prince decided to build a castle fit for their stay, even if it was for only one night, complete with well equipped bathrooms fitted with basins, tubs and toilets. The royal visitors never did come and the castle called George Castle remains unoccupied to this day.
The park is open throughout the year. Gwalior (112 km from Shivpuri) is the closest city and is well connected by rail, road and air.
