Kaziranga is home to a variety of wildlife apart from the rhino. You can spot the barasingha, hog deer, capped langurs, otters, hog badgers, wild buffalo, Hoolock gibbons, pythons and jungle cats in this rambling park. High above the elephant grasses growing wild here, fly a dazzling range of birds - Himalayan griffon, Oriental honey buzzard, Pallas' fishing eagle, white-tailed eagle, black-shouldered kite and Brahminy kite.
During the cold months, Kaziranga acts as a migratory destination to bar-headed geese, gadwall, falcated duck, and red-crested pochard, among others. Depending on the political situation in the state, this could be an ideal and off-beat place for a safari.
The best way to go rhino-spotting amid the tall grasses of Kaziranga is to find a friendly elephant and clamber atop it. An elephant safari gives you the kind of view that you've probably only seen on TV so far.
Another option is to hire a jeep to take you around the park. You can spot rhinos and other wildlife drinking at the waterholes in the resort, so a jeep ride is quite a good bet if you want to track down the wildlife here.
