The whole area has bamboos and sal trees. Almost everywhere there are are herds of spotted deer and if you are lucky the rare Barasingha or the Swamp Deer.
Kanha is so rich in wildlife that in the desire to see the tiger, the smaller animals and birds are often missed out like the Porcupine, Gray Langur, Mongoose, Hyena, Jungle Cat, or Leopard.
The animals at Kanha are best observed from the back of an elephant and the best time to visit the national park is between the months of April to June and November to January. The park is closed from July to mid-November, the monsoon season.
The nearest airport Nagpur, 266 km from Kanha National Park, is well connected with most major cities in India. Jabalpur, 169 km away from Kanha, is the nearest railway station. Kanha is accessible by road from from Jabalpur, Khajuraho 445 km and Nagpur 266 km away. There are regular bus services from Jabalpur to Kanha.
