Your trip on this luxury train will take you through mist-laden mountainsides, thick pine forests and hills that whisper tales of mystery and charm. If you're lucky, you might even get to ride the train through a cascade of snow, making for a truly picturesque journey.
Starting from Kalka, the train chugs its way to the first loop of Taksal. For shutterbugs, this is an opportunity of a lifetime to capture the mystique of the Himalayas. That's not the only loop on this route though - your luxury train takes you soon enough to two more spectacular loops at Gumman and Dharampur.
Past Dharampur lies Barog. The longest tunnel at Barog comes with a bloody history - the man who was responsible for it is said to have killed himself because he made a mistake in the alignment of the tunnel. The train runs on from here through the scenic Solan and Salogra to Kandaghat, which marks the beginning of the final climb.
Chugging past dense forests of oak, the train reaches Taradevi. The temple set atop the peak here is the stuff legends are made of. The train then winds its way under Prospect Hill to Jutogh, finally arriving via Summerhill at Shimla.
