Enjoy a tour of the hill stations on India on your Indian Travel journey.
The hill stations in Jammu and Kashmir are not only noted for their cool salubrious air and their stunning mountain scenery but are known for serene ambience, rolling meadows and spellbinding views. Termed as 'Jannat' on Earth, this state encompasses the picturesque tableland adorned with lakes and surrounded by snow-covered peaks.
Lying in the laps of Jammu and Kashmir, the captial and the largest city, Srinagar is famous for its canals, houseboats and Mughal Gardens. The city itself is quite unlike most other large Indian cities for here you are much more in Central Asia than on the Indian sub-continent.
Popularly known as the Queen of Hills, Mussoorie is located in the Garhwal hills. Its immense natural beauty derives the title for this hill station. Mussoorie is an excellent respite for tourists and people who want relief from the hot sultry conditions of the plains. Nature has gifted Mussoorie everything which makes a place beautiful. With the onset of summers tourists start coming here.
Nainital, a small town in the hills of Kumaon, Uttaranchal, is a lovely hill station surrounded by mountains on three sides. Once this area had many lakes and it was called the City of 60 lakes or 'Chakta'. Most of the lakes in the region have disappeared and whatever remains is just a glimpse of what they might have been in the past. Today the life of Nainital revolves around the lake of Naini.
Set against the backdrop of the dramatic Dhauladhar mountains, Dharamsala is perched on the high slopes in the upper reaches of Kangra Valley. Surrounded by dense pine trees, Deodar forests and towering peaks with trekking and hiking trails, Dharamsala, invites attention towards amazing sights, blessed with all the natural bounties. It has become a popular honeymoon destination and is known for its immense natural beauty all over the world. Come travel to Dharamsala having a nearby snowline with numerous streams and cool healthy atmosphere that make the surroundings very attractive.
Kullu was once known as Kulanthpitha, which means the end of the habitable world. Beyond rose the forbidding heights of the Greater Himalayas, and by the banks of the shining river Beas, lay the fabled 'Silver Valley'. Surrounded by towering peaks in the Kullu Valley, at an arm length, Manali's major asset is its proximity to the snowline. It is a flourishing orchard industry, a popular honeymoon destination and trailhead for numerous treks as well as a great countryside ideal for adventure sport lovers.
Mount Abu, the only hill station in Rajasthan, is a picturesque hill-station which is a green oasis in the barren desertscape. Situated at the southern tip of the Aravali range the hill retreat owes its cool climate to its rich flora.According to a legend, the place derives its name from Arbuda, a serpent who descended to the spot to rescue Shivas bull, Nandi. Besides having all the features of a pleasant hill resort, Mount Abu is also well known for the famous Dilwara temples.
Shimla has been blessed with all the natural bounties, one can think of. Dwelling on a panoramic location, the hilly town is surrounded by green pastures and snow-capped peaks. The spectacular cool hills accompanied by the structures made during the colonial era create an aura, which is very different from other hill stations.
