India Travel - Hill Stations Tours in Mussoorie

The Mall is the nerve center of Mussoorie. Every evening you will find a bustling crowd gathered here munching peanuts and enjoying the sunset and each other's company. You can even enjoy a ride down the mall in a quaint hill rickshaw. At one end of the Mall lies the Library Bazaar so named after the old Mussoorie Library. The Bazaar houses most of the hotels in the hill station as well as shops with a very British character to them. Mussoorie has a large population of Tibetans who followed the Dalai Lama when he left Lhasa. Happy Valley is where they have built a beautiful temple, which has some intricate murals adorning it. The Tibetans have also set up small stalls selling woolens, sports shoes and other trinkets. These stalls attract many customers during the tourist season.

A visit to Gun Hill via the Ropeway is also a must do. Here you can get photographs clicked in various costumes, which is a lot of fun besides giving you something to remember your trip by. Take time out to visit Landour known as the sister town of Mussoorie where you have Lal Tibba, which is the highest point in Mussoorie. In case you want to spend some time far away from the crowd, Dhanolti (24 km from Mussoorie) is the place for you. A popular temple in this area is the temple of Surkhanda Devi, which is located on a hilltop and offers a majestic view.

Another popular tourist destination is Kempty Falls (15 km from Mussoorie). These picturesque water falls are well connected by buses and taxis from Mussoorie and it offers some small restaurants and some secluded areas for picnics which are located a little further away from the main road.

The best time to visit is April to June or September to October. Mussoorie can be reached by rail and road. The nearest railway station is at Dehradun from where numerous buses and taxis take you to Mussoorie. There are also regular bus services from most metro cities in Northern India, while a conducted tour is also a good option. Though Mussoorie had its own airport called Jolly Grant Airport but there are no regular flights offered.
